Igor and Fat Corkey: Gypsies targeting elderly, cops say
"Legitimate workers do not use a post office box or local motel as business address."
When's the last time warnings like this were posted in your state? Even these guys had the decency to spare the relatively upright state of Illinois and head to the hell state.
Four Gypsy men from Chicago, known as Igor, Fat Corkey, Touche and Minnow, could be targeting the elderly in Orange County, investigators said. The men, who speak mostly Romani, a language spoken by Eastern European Gypsies, wear uniforms and pose as utility workers, tree trimmers or survey crews to gain entry to elderly victims' residences and rob them of their cash and jewelry.Sheriff's investigators know the men, who use the names Tony White and Corkey Johnson. Two of the other men share the name Steve Miller. They left Chicago and came to Orange County last week.Spokesman Jim Solomons of the Orange County Sheriff's Office "strongly cautions" residents to be suspicious of a utility worker offering services that were not requested.
Apparently this is not the first time.....
Clan Of Gypsies Swindling Central Florida Men
POSTED: Tuesday, February 13, 2007
"Cecilia's father apparently met his future bride in the parking lot of a Save-a-Lot grocery store"
ORLANDO, Fla. -- A clan of young and attractive gypsies is targeting and scamming men in Central Florida....
The report featured a woman named Cooter Anderson, 30, who is a traveling gypsy, according to police, and has allegedly worked between South Florida and Philadelphia.
"Cooter Anderson is the cover-girl for a gypsy business that doesn't play by the rules," Local 6's Mike Holfeld said. "It's a romance con game the gypsies call 'the sweetheart swindle or the sugar daddy job.'"
Local 6 News has learned that Anderson and other gypsies have apparently fleeced widowed men across the country for millions of dollars.
Now, Orlando's senior population has been caught in the same apparent trap...
A viewer, Cecilia, told Local 6 News that her father (86 years old) became a victim of the gypsy "sweetheart scam."
Cecilia's father apparently met his future bride in the parking lot of a Save-a-Lot grocery store located on Silver Star Road last September.
She cooked meals and spent time with him, the report said.
Cecilia, who did not want her father identified for the report, said the man knew his gypsy bride as Sonia Thompson. However, investigators said, the woman has many names.
"When in the world did it evolve into, 'I now pronounce you man and wife?'" Holfeld asked.
